Hi there! If you’re reading this I want to say that I’m happy you’re here! My name is Mekenzie. A chai drinking, Hozier listening, and book reading mama. This is a little about me and my life.
I’m a mom of three sweet kiddos, a five year old, three year old, and a twenty month old. As you can guess, our house can get a little hectic! This stage of my life has brought more blessings and challenges than I could ever imagine. Motherhood has pushed me to find balance and gratitude on the toughest days.
I grew up in the very small town of Damascus in Southwestern Virginia. In the heart of Appalachian Mountains, I grew up with a profound love for being outdoors and small town life. My time spent on mission trips and with my church youth group gave me a broader perception of the world. Although my religious beliefs have shifted over time, the love of caring for others will always hold a sacred piece of my heart.
I served in the military for five years and separated in 2022. My husband is currently active duty in the Navy, we are still navigating life as a military family. My oldest was one and a half when I started dating my husband, so I also lived the single mom life for the first bit of my time as a mama. We are currently reside in North Carolina and have been here for the past six years.
I consider myself to be living the best (and worst) of both worlds when it comes to my career and home life. Last year our middle son, then two years old, was diagnosed with type one diabetes. That flipped our world upside down at first. His daycare was no longer able to accept him, so we made the decision to pull him and my oldest out of daycare altogether (my youngest was not in daycare at the time). I found a new job working night shift on the weekend. I work full time each weekend and then am a stay at home throughout the week while my husband works. Not always easy, but I’m so grateful for the time I get with my kids.
I’ve been a medical laboratory technician for six years. I work in blood bank, which has been my lab tech home my entire career. My current hospital is a large trauma center, it keeps me busy at work and is teaching me so much! I love working in healthcare and plan to continuing my education in the next year or so.
My posts and content likely won’t focus on a specific niche. I plan to write about anything that I find interesting or useful. From motherhood to politics. You are basically entering my digital journal. I hope you find something that intrigues or helps you. I pride myself in researching the topics I speak about, doing may best to find multiple sources and perspectives. There is always something new to learn and growth to be made! One of the core values of my life is knowing that knowledge is power. Education is empowerment. I hope to support women and men in whatever part of their journey they’re on and to put love for fellow humans above all else. Thank you again for being here and reading my first post, let’s learn together!
